What is Creative Music Performance?
Creative Music Performance (CMP), based in Carrboro, North Carolina, is a group oriented music program for youth.

Where is Creative Music Performance located?
The CMP program takes place in Nightsound Studios, located at 116 C West Main Street in Carrboro, North Carolina. Classes will primarily be held in Nightsound's live room, with the full studio being utilized for the recording process. The release show for the participants will be held at a local music venue.
Who can apply?
Creative Music Performance is open to motivated musicians in high school (rising 9th through 12th grade)! Students do not need to be taking lessons for the instrument that they will play in CMP; however, students should feel comfortable with the basics of their instrument of choice and with learning at a relatively quick pace in a group setting.
How big are the groups?
Groups will consist of anywhere from three to eight students. The size of the group will largely depend on the overlap in ability and interest of the applicants.
Will instruments be supplied?
Most definitely! Since the courses are held in Nightsound Studios, there will be ample gear for all students. Of course, students are welcome to bring their own equipment if they wish to do so!
Will students really get to record in a studio?
Absolutely! All learning and rehearsing will take place in Nightsound Studios, and the recording will occur in the same space. The number of tracks recorded depends on several variables, but students can expect to have one to six songs ready for their release show--and for distribution on Bandcamp!
Will students really have a release show?
Indeed! AND it will be AWESOME! The students will perform all the songs they have learned during the program at The Station in Carrboro on June 29th; they will be joined by two other local bands! The focus of the event will be on celebrating the release of the students' music.
What else should I know?
The classes are led by Ian Leinbaugh, who has been performing, teaching, and recording in the Triangle area for over a decade. Participants will be grouped with peers of similar playing abilities and musical interests. While the focus will be on learning, recording, and performing cover songs, students will also be encouraged to both jam and create original music as well.
The students will be coached in the learning, rehearsing, and performing of 3-6 songs; stage presence & logistics; creating a "brand" for their band; marketing & promotion; cooperation and working towards a common creative goal; how to make the most of individual practice time, group rehearsals, & studio time; how to properly use their gear, and much more!
The participants are of course welcome to continue as a band after the program has ended. They will also complete the program with the skills and knowledge to start a band of their own if they wish to do so.
Please note that attendance for every day of the program--and, of course, the show as well!--is essential. There are no makeup days, and since the group is dependent on each member to make the recording and performance a success, it is very important for every student to be present for every class.
For CMP's summer camps, students should be ready to spend the better part of 5 hours a day, Monday through Friday, playing awesome music--with a show on the last Saturday, of course! While there will be water readily available, students are encouraged to bring their own lunch.
I have more questions!
There is still even more to this program than what is included above; don't hesitate to get in touch if you want more interested and/or have any questions!
